teamKRUSH
teamKRUSH began named "teamFRED" in the 1997-1998 ski season with a group of 7 year
olds from a local school. The six to eight kids skied with me each Thursday for 8
weeks as part of a school ski-program. They were the original "rocket
pack!" With Justin and Cody skiing in speed-tucks and everyone skiing the trees
faster than me-what a fun morning it was to ski with these kids!

In the 1998-1999 season,
teamFRED was composed of the Tuesday morning
kindergarten group of 6 year olds (I am hating the fact I don't have a photo of
this group). We have skied together for 6 weeks and what a terrific group of kids
they were! The regular kids were Anna Rose, Cole, Connor, Jake, Jeff, Kya and Lisa.
We can't forget about Kya and Lisa's mom, Micki, who wanted to come ski with us
the last two times and had as much fun as the kids! We learned a great
deal about
safety and the importance of skiing together.

Anna Rose, Cole, and Kya helped me with the rules for teamFred: |
I thought these were great rules to live by

| teamFRED 1999 is also the group that inspired me to
design my teamFRED logo- with its bright sunshine and fresh tracks. |

teamFRED 2000 enjoyed another 8 weeks to learn and have fun. Lisa and Kya returned to be the first teamFRED veterans and were joined by Lisa and Christopher. Skiing around on the blue runs like big skiers surprised many guests as the kids would often be skiing better than many of the grown-ups we skied by! Our favorite runs were: Harmony, Tunnel of Fun, Snow Dancer's "Secret Woods", Crowning Glory, Boa, and, of course, ZAP! We even skied CANIS LUPIS (a double diamond) on the last day, which if you don't already know, is the famous "James Bond" run that kids of all ages love to ski.

As a special off mountain learning assignment, I asked
teamFred 2000 to draw or write about something that they saw on the mountain
when they were skiing (remember they are 7 years old!)

teamKRUSH
Teaching at Deer Valley has been great, to say the least. Some kids I taught over Christmas holiday season nicknamed me "Krush" after the sea turtle in "Finding Nemo." Then, Zack also said I reminded him of Krush, so, naturally, I was curious as to what the reason was, since I had not seen the movie. Turns out that Krush is a 150 year old sea turtle that says "dude" and "awesome" quite a few times in the movie. Krush has a small kid turtle that is named Squirt and Squirt and all his friends have tons of fun swimming in the EAC (East Australian Current.) I have seen the movie many times now. It is a funny and uplifting movie not just for children! I incorporate many of its funny sequences and lines into our ski days. As the children are skiing together, and are following KRUSH (me) down the hill, we "swim" (ski) in our own "current" (my tracks) and together we learn safe skiing skills. Since that group back in Christmas, I changed the
original name of teamFred
(teamFred
has matured into the 21st Century!!) to teamKRUSH and all my
clients and groups, even adults, have been a part of teamKrush.
