What better to do with a good winter than
be a ski instructor at Deer Valley Resort?

Finishing up my second year here at Deer Valley, I can't think of a single thing!

I am proud to announce that for the 2004-2005 season, I am the Area Representative for:

Dynastar Skis
Lange Boots
Look Bindings

as well as being on the

COLE SPORT PROFESSIONAL STAFF

MY SKIING PHILOSOPHY

To ski well is to hover over the terrain as if suspended
by some unknown or hidden force:

it may be thought of as a force of faith in your ability.

I have found that the freedom offered by snow skiing is unmatched in anything I have experienced in my life.  There is a symbiotic nature between the powder under your skis connected to your feet connected to your brain.  Sometimes it is effortless and relaxing.  Sometimes it is scary and intense.  Never is it the same as before or as it will be.  Never will YOU be the same.  Each time you ski you face many variables that you have to overcome and no turn is the same.  They say 50% of your turns are turns to the left.  I say don't worry about percentages and enjoy the snow!  Powder!   Groomers!  Crud!  Bumps!

Enjoy the wealth the mountain offers!

The fact that I was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and then raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, leaves most wondering how I ended up in a small mountain resort town (which ain't so small anymore).  I have been skiing since I was 16 years when my dad got our family snow skis for Christmas.  It became a true obsession when my friends Jamie and Dave took me up to the top of Ober Gatlinburg and said "see ya at the bottom."  As Dave slithered away in his "parallel gracefulness", I was snowplowing and falling on my face!  No worries, however, as it didn't take many trips up to Ober Gatlinburg, Beech Mountain, NC, or Sugar Mountain, NC, before I realized I loved sliding down the snow covered hills with the wind in my face!  The next thing you know I go to Colorado a couple of times with my girlfriend and some friends and I discover the West!   Utah was still a mystery, but in the Spring of 1989 I came to Alta and discovered over 150 inches of the Greatest Snow on Earth.  I have been around the Park City area since the winter of 1989.

Skiing is something I consider a major component of my definition of LIVING.  Teaching skiing fell naturally out of my love for the sport. My friend Karl told me that I should teach snow skiing after I began teaching  mountain biking for him at the Mountain Bike School at Deer Valley.  This proved to myself that I could be a patient teacher at something different and difficult while actually doing something I loved at the same time.

In the last week of February 2004, I got to "full-circle" with my skiing as Dave, mentioned above, booked me for an all day private lesson. First it was quite an honor to help someone who served as an inspiration for my skiing career, and second, it was a great powder day with one of my oldest and best friends.  Truly I am enjoying this game I call ski instruction!

LEVEL II CERTIFIED ALPINE

"I CAN HELP"
is my motto so if you are a "never-ever" looking for that
patient coach you never thought you could find to start your new adventure; an intermediate needing to get an extra edge (PUN INTENDED!) on your skiing; or an accomplished skier looking for a tune up from another accomplished skier--
I can help.

With many years in the area and a personal interest in advancement of the ski industry and my part in it, as well as being very connected with the local shops and ski industry, you can count on me for updates on the latest in ski instruction and technology.

Come skiing with me and see why I love doing what I do and
living in The Greatest Snow on Earth!
