SKIING UNDER THE FULL MOON

HE SURE SMILED ON US TONIGHT

At 11:00 pm, October 28, David, Clyde the dog, and I went up to Guardsman Pass and poached some of this fresh powder that we have received this week.  You say:  Hmmm, 11:00pm?   Wassup with that?  Well, we skied UNDER THE FULL MOON.  What a blast!  Sometimes, being a total night owl pays off!  It has been years since I have skied at night as I refuse to hit the night skiing at Park City Mountain Resort (the only lit skiing around here.)  It has probably been since 1995 or 1996 since I have done the full moon thing, so tonight really was a blast and a refreshing way to spend a quiet evening in Park City.

Getting home at 1:30am from SKIING AT DEER VALLEY is strange yet VERY COOL.

And, most of you know how much I love powder DAYS, but I REALLY LOVE POWDER NIGHTS!!

Even Clyde seemed to enjoy the fresh snow!

So, checking the temperature, as even though it was 26F it was NIGHTTIME, I wisely made the choice to wear my old school (1992!) North Face Steep Tech "Scott Schmidt designed" Chute Suit, which Jimmy K. had so aptly named "The Grape Ape" many years ago.  It doesn't get much more old school than that for me, as all the new gear I have has slowly replaced all the old stuff. But the Grape Ape is still an awesome suit even though totally retro--back to the days when "extreme" was a cool word!

The Grape Ape was definitely back in ACTION!!

The snow was a few feet deep in MANY places and has me looking forward to another big season.  Evidently, Brighton Ski Area is opening tomorrow--if its not the earliest, it has to be one of the earliest openings in their history.  I also heard Snowbird is talking about opening their hill next week.  I sure hope that is a sign of things to come!
